Structural project to reinforce the productive and innovative capacity of the national semiconductor and microelectronics industry. The microelectronics sector has faced difficulties in accessing and providing components and systems at the European level, due to the impact of geopolitical tensions, resource scarcity, or the breakdown of distribution and production chains caused by the pandemic, which has highlighted the dominance of the Asian market and the need for Europe to have greater autonomy in this influential and structural sector for the digital transition.

Description:

Structural project to reinforce the productive and innovative capacity of the national semiconductor and microelectronics industry. The microelectronics sector has faced difficulties in accessing and providing components and systems at the European level, due to the impact of geopolitical tensions, resource scarcity, or the breakdown of distribution and production chains caused by the pandemic, which has highlighted the dominance of the Asian market and the need for Europe to have greater autonomy in this influential and structural sector for the digital transition.

The Microelectronics Agenda was designed in an integrated logic and with proximity to the European initiatives IPCEI on Microelectronics and EU Chips Act, seeking to unlock the potential of the semiconductor industry and bring added value to European society and economy. The Agenda is the first step in the national response to the European need to overcome its systemic failures in the sector, through structural investments to reinforce productive capacity, innovation, capacity building, and production of relevant information in the national semiconductor industry.

The Microelectronics Agenda involves a set of 17 partners and seeks to position Portugal at the forefront of the market for the management, production, distribution, and recycling of semiconductors, capable of properly supplying Europe and other countries on a global scale.

Objectives:

Reinforce the productive capacity and competitiveness in the microelectronics area, at the level of advanced packaging, industrialization of products based on integrated optical circuits, new high-speed access networks, and technologies for industry 4.0.
